How is the EAN-13 check digit calculated?

With the standard modulo-10 algorithm: sum digits in odd positions, add three times the digits in even positions, and subtract the total from the next multiple of 10. The extension calculates it automatically.

What is the difference between EAN-13 and UPC-A?
